{"id":185,"date":"2020-06-10T14:20:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-10T12:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/uk\/luzarches\/"},"modified":"2020-11-13T10:11:51","modified_gmt":"2020-11-13T09:11:51","slug":"luzarches","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/history-heritage\/historic-towns\/luzarches\/","title":{"rendered":"Luzarches"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-excerpt\">Situated on the slopes of the Ysieux valley, between the Plaine de France and the Chantilly forest, about thirty kilometers north of Paris, Luzarches gives you the opportunity to relive <strong>medieval times<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Luzarches, a very old village <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Occupied since at least the Bronze Age, Luzarches has had a parish church since the <strong>8th century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 9th century, Norman incursions forced the construction of a feudal mound, a 15 m high mound of earth (still in place) topped by a wooden castle, surrounded by ditches and palisades. Then it is a wall and towers that protect the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Beaumont family, the first lords of the place, occupied the Ch\u00e2teau d&#8217;En-Haut. Around 1170, Jean de Beaumont brought back from the Holy Land relics of Saints Como and Damien. An important pilgrimage is then set up to ask for the intercession of these two twin saints, patrons of doctors and pharmacists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-993\" width=\"518\" height=\"388\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-650x488.jpg 650w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-280x210.jpg 280w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-900x675.jpg 900w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 518px) 100vw, 518px\" \/><figcaption>Eglise St C\u00f4me et St Damien<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Luzarches becomes, at the beginning of the 13th century, a village of a certain importance, 400 fires are counted in 1204. A H\u00f4tel-dieu and a leprosarium welcomed the sufferers. It is the family of the Bouteillers de Senlis who built the &#8220;Ch\u00e2teau d&#8217;En-Bas&#8221;, completed in 1220.<br>Luzarches remained a prosperous city until the end of the 14th century. But the Hundred Years&#8217; War brought misery; the population was decimated and the fields often remained uncultivated. In 1492, the &#8220;de Cenesme&#8221;, bankers from Lucca in Italy, became the only lords of Luzarches, after four hundred years of division between two families.<br>Around 1510, Luzarches recovered from the war damage and with a population of about 2,400, it is once again a flourishing town. Towards the end of the century, the castle of En-Haut was partially destroyed during the new Wars of Religion and transformed into a farm.<br>In the 17th century, the princes of Cond\u00e9 became lords of Luzarches.<br>At the dawn of the 19th century, Luzarches was one of the most populated and dynamic towns of the Seine-et-Oise department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Luzarches, a town of transit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For more than three centuries, from 1479 to 1853, the heart of Luzarches beat to the rhythm of its main artery, the main road from Paris to Calais. The third post relay from the capital, many inns offered their services and weekly markets were held under the wooden hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-2-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-991\" width=\"687\" height=\"515\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-2-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-2-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-2-650x488.jpg 650w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-2-280x210.jpg 280w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-2-900x675.jpg 900w, https:\/\/destination.parc-oise-paysdefrance.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/06\/luzarches-2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 687px) 100vw, 687px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Luzarches is served by two major departmental roads, both of them old national roads whose origins go back to the past, N13 and N322. It is especially its facade which is remarkable, completed in 1548 by Nicolas de Saint-Michel, in the late Renaissance, it regains the charm of the Ancients by the reuse of coffered vaults, pediments and richly carved decorations.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>The Hall <\/strong>of 1740, in the center of the city, mentioned as early as 1386.
